In 2002, when Kathryn Tuckwiller and Jennifer Jones decided Jennifer's property in West Virginia, called “Swift Level”, was ready to host equestrian retreats, they asked Donna to meet with them to create the first program. The result was a retreat called “Women and Horses.” The program's objective was to help women equestrians take care of themselves with as much attention and thoughtfulness as they take care of their horses.

Now the program has grown and Jennifer takes it all over the country. That first meeting at Swift Level four years ago ignited Donna's passion for horses.

After becoming the proud owner of a beautiful TB mare named Betty Bhue, Donna quickly realized that any time she previously had for massages or facials became time spent on her horse - bathing, grooming, picking hooves, detangling manes and tails, taking care of dings, cleaning tack, and, on a good day, riding!

All the hard work on the horse also caused damage to her own skin - broken and torn nails and cuticles, dry, rough hands, and sun damage to her face and hair.

History
Donne & Cavalli (Italian for “women and horses”) was created from a passion for helping women take better care of themselves and their horses.

Company founder Donna Mastrianni has been a Master Esthetician for over 20 years. She has created product lines for the Sea Island Spa in Sea Island, Georgia and The PGA TOUR SPA LATERRA in St. Augustine, Fl. and has assisted numerous other resort spas in the country choose their products and treatments based on her expertise.

Donna began her career in Connecticut as an esthetician. After moving to Atlanta, she quickly embraced the industry and became an operations director for the Sea Island Spa at the Cloister Resort on Sea Island in Georgia. After 10 years at Sea Island, Donna opened Mastrianni and Associates, Inc., a spa consulting company. The Mastrianni and Associates team also includes Kathryn Tuckwiller, Monica Tuma Brown, and Leslie Wolski, who have a total of over 125 years of experience in the group, resort, medical, equestrian and spa fields.

Donna also owns a small boutique spa on Saint Simons Island, a beautiful resort island in South Georgia. This spa was originally created as a “test kitchen” for her consulting business. However, after the community discovered the quality and benefits of the spa's products and services, the business flourished. The Facial Suite Boutique Spa now offers the expertise of three estheticians, all with resort spa experience, and four skilled massage therapists.
After listening to other horse owners who were experiencing the same problems, Donna decided that it was time to create a skin care product line that catered to the needs of women equestrians, and the Donne & Cavalli name was born.

The first product to be introduced is called Soothing Salve, a round bar of balm that can be
used to heal rough hands and dry cuticles as well as dings and scratches in a horse's coat. Donna was introduced to a wonderful blender in New Hampshire, who combined olive oil, carrot seed essential oil and essential oil of lavendula augustalfolia to help her create this balm. They found the horses love the carrot seed oil, which also has wonderful properties for healing.

Other Donne & Cavalli products that are in the formulation stage are body lotion, shower gel, lip balm and a sunscreen for both horses and their riders. Stay tuned!
